Barry Switzer is a legend of a head coach and he thinks highly of current Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley.
The Oklahoma Sooners know what it’s like to have great head coaches. From legends like Barry Switzer and Bob Stoops to current coaching prodigies like Lincoln Riley, the Sooners have been led by some phenomenal football minds.
Saturday morning, during FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff, Switzer joined the broadcast crew to chat about what makes Riley such a good head coach. Unsurprisingly, much of Switzer’s statement surrounded what Riley does with Oklahoma’s offense.
“Lincoln Riley, he’s got three guys starting in pro football. He’s got two Heisman winners and a runner up. He’s got a guy competing for it right now. Lincoln Riley has the opportunity to recruit the top quarterbacks in the country every year because he works with them every day, game plans, looks at film, spends all his time with the quarterback,” Switzer said.
As he points out, Oklahoma and Riley help provide the perfect spot for anyone on offense, but that’s particularly true for the quarterback.
“What quarterback wouldn’t want to have that relationship with the head coach that calls the plays and runs the offense? I think he’s got the perfect situation for any quarterback in the country. Offensively we’ll always be good,” Switzer elaborated.
Oklahoma legend Barry Switzer has some high praise for current Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley
While he hasn’t been overseeing the program for very long, Riley has seen an abundance of success during his time as the head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners. And, as Switzer points out, the Sooners have thrived offensively and will always be good on offense.
Much of Oklahoma’s overall success is due to the offense that Riley has designed and orchestrates. The Sooners can score points at will and can score on anyone. While their defense needs some work, OU’s offense can always keep the Sooners in position to compete for a championship.
