Penn State football gets huge news on defensive star

James Franklin and Penn State football fans got some incredibly important news when a key member of the Nittany Lions defense announced his intent to return.

With the way the Penn State Nittany Lions struggled to break through in the Big Ten this season, James Franklin and the rest of the Penn State football program must be looking ahead to what next year may hold. Well, the Nittany Lions are getting some good news about what next season may hold as one important defensive star will be back for another season.

Joey Porter Jr. took to social media to make it clear about his intentions for next season and, even though he wants to be in the NFL, he’s going to be back for another year of Penn State football.

Getting Porter back for one more year could potentially be monumental for a team that is looking to somehow make a name for itself among the elite programs in the Big Ten.

Penn State football: Key star announces plans to return to Penn State Nittany Lions for 2022

Porter has long been a talented defensive back and is a key member of this Penn State defense. The former four-star recruit is immensely talented and took a step up for the Nittany Lions this season.

Through the first three seasons of his career, Porter has played in 23 games and has recorded 84 total tackles. During the 2021 season, Porter recorded 48 tackles, one interception, and four passes defended. Porter came in with the eighth-most tackles for the Nittany Lions this year, which isn’t bad for a cornerback.

While his stats aren’t necessarily the most impressive in the country, Porter can take a huge step forward next season, which would be big for Penn State. He’s got an opportunity to be a leader for a team that is trying to show it can be one of the best in the country.
