Packers: Brian Gutekunst explains Davante Adams trade in simple terms

While speaking with reporters on Monday, Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst opened up about the Davante Adams trade.

It’s going to take a ton of getting used to for Green Bay Packers fans not seeing Davante Adams at Lambeau Field next season. In one of the biggest moves of the offseason, Adams was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders.

On top of that, he signed a monster new contract with the team. The decision to trade Adams wasn’t easy for general manager Brian Gutekunst, but he said on Monday that it was in the best interest of the team for the plans for the future.

Brian Gutekunst is ready for the Packers to move forward

As you can see from his quote above, Gutekunst is focused on Aaron Rodgers leading the show and helping this team potentially win another Super Bowl. Keep in mind that reports surfaced stating Green Bay also offered Adams a huge extension, but he made it clear he wanted to play elsewhere.

Apparently, it’s been Adams’ dream to play for the Raiders. Gutekunst granted things for him and the Packers received a nice haul of picks in return. For Rodgers, it’s going to be strange not having Adams out on the field with him starting this September.

The two formed arguably the best duo in the game, as they drove opposing defenses wild with their play. Rodgers could fling the pigskin under pressure and Adams would find a way to come down with the ball. This season, it will be on others to step up, while the expectation is that Green Bay will use a first-rounder on a wideout. It won’t be easy to replace Adams’ production, but Gutekunst believes in this team as a whole.
