Oklahoma football lands juco transfer with an all-time great name

The Oklahoma Sooners landed a new quarterback in the form of a junior college transfer General Booty.

The Oklahoma Sooners football program experienced plenty of changes this offseason, especially at the quarterback position. Spencer Rattler transferred over to South Carolina and Caleb Williams joined Lincoln Riley at USC. But, the Sooners did land a new quarterback this offseason.

On Saturday, Oklahoma received the commitment from junior college transfer and quarterback General Booty.

Oklahoma lands commitment from JUCO transfer General Booty

A 2020 article from the Dallas Morning News says that the name came from his father, Abram, who had an interest in the Army when he was growing up, and decided he would name his son General.

Booty played for the Tyler Junior College Apache this past season as a freshman. Through 11 games played, Booty completed 61.2 percent of his passes for 3,115 yards, 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Football runs in the family. Booty’s father Abram was a former wide receiver for the LSU Tigers. His uncle, Josh, played quarterback for LSU and was a sixth-round draft pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2001, which happened after playing for the then-Florida Marlins (1996-98). His other uncle, John David, was a quarterback for USC from 2003 until 2007, where he was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft.

Booty now joins Oklahoma’s quarterback depth chart, which is headlined by Dillon Gabriel and 2022 four-star recruit Nick Evers.
