With the Green Bay Packers not placing the franchise tag on Aaron Jones, the door is wide open for the Miami Dolphins to step in and sign him this offseason.
Some big news has come out of Lambeau Field, with ESPN insider Adam Schefter reporting that the Green Bay Packers have decided not to use the franchise tag on star running back Aaron Jones. With this latest decision from general manager Brian Gutekunst, several teams will surely look to put a sexy offer on the table for Jones.
Could this include the Miami Dolphins? With Brian Flores and Co. hoping to make noise in the AFC East for years to come, adding a player of Jones’ caliber would no question send a message to the rest of the division.
The Miami Dolphins should no question make a move to land running back Aaron Jones
Ever since arriving to Green Bay in 2017, Jones has solidified himself as one of the top running backs in the NFC. In 2019, he exploded for 16 rushing touchdowns and followed that up this past season by running for a career-high 1,104 yards, while also adding nine scores on the ground.
Evidently, that wasn’t enough for Gutekunst to secure his services for at least one more year by placing the franchise tag on him. This fact should excite fans all over Miami.
Should Jones make his way to the Dolphins, he’d immediately improve the offense in a big way. He’s explosive running the ball and also does an outstanding job of catching the ball out of the backfield. We’ve seen that in recent years with him catching passes from Aaron Rodgers. He could do the same for 2020 first-round pick Tua Tagovailoa.
Miami figures to be quite busy this offseason in free agency. Making a run at Jones should no question be at the top of their list.
