Chiefs fans get good news on Tyrann Mathieu before AFC Championship Game

Despite suffering a concussion in the heart-stopping win over the Bills, it’s looking like Tyrann Mathieu will be ready to rock in the AFC Championship Game.

The Kansas City Chiefs received quite the scare on Sunday in the showdown with the Buffalo Bills. On Buffalo’s first drive, star safety Tyrann Mathieu’s helmet collided with Jarran Reed’s leg and he was down on the turf in pain.

Mathieu wasn’t able to return to action, as he was ruled out for the rest of the contest with a concussion. While there was some worry that Mathieu would miss the AFC Championship Game against Cincinnati coming up on Sunday, that won’t be the case.

The Chiefs expect both Tyrann Mathieu and Rashad Fenton to play on Sunday

In addition to Mathieu, the Chiefs are also expecting cornerback Rashad Fenton to take on the Bengals. Fenton has been dealing with a back injury, but it’s looking like he’ll be able to get back to practice and suit up with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.

For Mathieu, you already know he’s going to be fired up to try and silence Joe Burrow from start to finish in this one. Few guys play with more swagger than Mathieu, and he’s made countless plays for the Kansas City defense over the years.

Following the win over the Bills, Kansas City is now on the verge of getting back to the Super Bowl for the third consecutive season. With the Packers choking, Kansas City also holds the No. 1 odds to win it all as well.

First, they’ll need to take care of business against Cincinnati. Fortunately for head coach Andy Reid, he’ll have Mathieu all set to fly around against the Bengals and their potent offense.
